There are plenty of exotic food options when you land in Iceland. You can spend hundreds of dollars feasting on shark, puffins and sheep’s head jelly. But, in my opinion, there’s only one food that every single visitor in Iceland must try. The only food you must try is a hot dog with “everything” from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur -- which translates at “The Town’s Best Hot Dogs.” It is respected by construction workers and food bloggers. It is perfect for a late night snack or an early lunch. A Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur hot dog is made from Icelandic lamb with some pork and beef -- the meat trifecta! The hot dogs natural casing gives it the perfect snap you want… and need… and crave. Order it with “everything” and it will come with an assortable of accoutrements. This includes crispy fried onions, sweet brown mustard called pylsusinnep, and remoulade. The remoulade is a sauce made with mayo, capers, mustard and herbs
By the time I visited Iceland on my third trip in 2018, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur hot dogs were available at gas stations all across the country. That meant I could eat those beautiful hot dogs EVERYWHERE I went. On my way to Keflavík International Airport, I missed a chance at one last hot dog. “Damn“ I thought.
“The one that got away.” But, as if God herself was looking down upon me, I saw Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur in the airport food court. The dream come true. Have you ever had a hot dog from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur? Comment what you think below!
