The first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Bermuda are the breathtaking pink sand beaches. And for good reason. Bermuda’s pink sand beaches are iconic.
A trip to Bermuda is not complete without a day (a couple days) spent soaking up the sun on these beaches. But which one should you choose? Horseshoe Bay? Elbow Beach? How about all of them in one afternoon. Follow my step-by-step guide of checking out ALL of Bermuda’s pink sand beaches.
Before we get started, do you know why some of the beaches in Bermuda have pink sand? The sand gets its coloring from ground up shells that make their way onto the beaches. And, only the beaches in the southern portion of the island have pink sand.
Now, let’s get on with the tour.
Elbow Beach
Elbow Beach got its name because of its location at the “elbow” of the island. The beach is accessible off of South Road down Tribe Road No. 4B. Free scooter parking is easily found. It is a massive beachfront that provides beautiful views of the sea. The water is crystal clear and stunning. While there are nearby bars and restaurants, don’t expect great facilities.
Warwick Long Bay Beach.
There are a number of places to access Warwick Long Bay Beach. The first is at the Warwick Long Bay Playground -- which has a wooden sign on the left side of South Road. After parking in the parking lot, walk through the open area of the park down to the beach. The chance is you’ll find few, if any, tourists on this stretch. The second is about a minute further down South Road. On the left, you’ll see a wooden sign for Jobson’s Cove. This is the main parking lot that people use to check out Warwick Long Bay Beach. Jobson’s Cove is perfect place for exploring. Lots of great walking paths, sandy nooks and incredible scenery. This spot was a favorite for my wife and I during our trip.
Water Rocks, Middle and Butts Beaches
All three of these beaches are within walking distance of each other. Actually, you could walk from Warwick Long Bay Beach through these beaches and finally to Horseshoe Bay Beach within about 20 minutes. However, if you’re taking your scooters to the three beaches, you have to pay attention for a turnoff. The road down to the beaches comes IMMEDIATELY after a scenic turnoff on the left side of the road. From this road, you can take a series of very short walking trails to get to the beaches. The thing I love most about Water Rocks, Middle and Butts Beaches is that they’re secluded. You could set up a towel, umbrella and enjoy a peaceful afternoon. You will also walk away with some awesome photos. You can’t help but explore the rocks, shores and sealife when you’re here.
Horseshoe Bay Beach
Horseshoe Bay Beach is the quintessential pink-sand beach in Bermuda. Ever seen a picture of a model on a pink sand beach? It was probably at Horseshoe Bay Beach. It is incredibly beautiful but it can get incredibly crowded. So make sure to stake your spot early. What are your favorite pink-sand beach in Bermuda? Comment below!
