When you’re away from home traveling, you yearn for something familiar. Something you’ve known all your life. Something you know -- without a shadow a shadow of a doubt -- will be delicious.
For my lovely wife Abby, that “something” is pizza. Pizza is a safe bet. How can you mess up pizza? Luckily for myself and not so luckily for Abby, we’ve found out how horribly wrong ordering pizza in a non-pizza country can go.
SANDYS PARISH, BERMUDA -- It was getting dark. My wife, Abby, and I had been driving our scooters around Sandy’s Parish in Bermuda for a few couple hours at this point. She had never driven a scooter before and was learning on the go.
HAVANA, CUBA -- We were returning home from Cuba when it all started to go wrong. What was supposed to be a quick flight from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore turned into a 48-hour ordeal that involved food poisoning, vomiting, a road trip with strangers and sleeping in an airport lobby.
My wife and I really wanted to be prepared for our trip to Cuba. That meant that on top of planning day trips, finding good restaurants and bars and everything else that goes into planning a good trip, we would also have to learn -- or relearn -- some Spanish.
